Country and classic blues-rock favorites are the first shows to be confirmed for the 2004 schedule at the New York State Fair grandstand.

The Allman Brothers Band, which has jammed numerous times at the grandstand, plays Aug. 27; Reba McEntire, a grandstand favorite known for her big-time stage shows, will perform Aug. 28; Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker mix country with pop Aug. 31; ZZ Top lays down the blues-rock spell Sept. 1; and Rascal Flatts sings its country-pop Sept. 4.

The fair runs Aug. 26 to Sept. 6. Concerts will run every night except the last day, which is reserved for motor sports.

Joe LaGuardia, who programs music for the grandstand, said he'll announce the rest of the shows as contracts are signed.

"It's going a little slow," LaGuardia said of the negotiating process. "But we'll be OK."

LaGuardia said he hopes to have the schedule finalized before tickets go on sale. The first time available to buy tickets for all the shows will be at 10 a.m. June 26. Tickets will be available at the fair box office, TicketMaster outlets, the Web site www.ticketmaster.com, and by phone charge at 472-0700. Only cash will be accepted for the first day of ticket sales at the fair box office.

All the showsstart at 7:30 p.m. except for the Allman Brothers Band, which will start its four-hour show at 7 p.m.

Tickets will be $40 and $38 for the McEntire show, which also features opener Carolyn Dawn Johnson, and the Chesney-Uncle Kracker show.

Tickets will be $38 and $36 for the ZZ Top show.

Tickets will be $36 and $34 for the Allman Brothers Band and Rascal Flatts shows. The Rascal Flatts show also features opener Chris Cagle.
